Patient Safety Tool

To make it easier to identify which treatments are proven to be safe and effective, we've adopted a ‘traffic light’ patient safety rating system. (Please download this document by clicking on the Patient Safety Tool button, below.)

In the traffic light system, we define the following:

Green:  Conventional Treatments* that have met the standards of evidence we've set for safety and efficacy.

Amber: Unproven Treatments* that have met the standards of evidence we've set for safety but not efficacy. We don't fund these treatments, but may offer a financial contribution up to the cost of conventional proven treatment.

Red: Unproven treatments* that have not met the standards of evidence we've set for safety. We don't fund these treatments.

We're looking for dialogue with clinicians over procedures and treatments we don't currently authorise.

If you feel we should change our policies, take a moment to consider the levels of evidence in our Patient Safety Tool and get in touch with us via medevsupport@axahealth.co.uk

* These are terms defined in our policy handbooks and may be amended by AXA Health from time to time at its absolute discretion.
