To become recognised by AXA Health* you must first check you satisfy our recognition criteria listed below under your selected specialty. You must also agree to our Terms of Recognition, Billing Principles and contractual terms. Our terms of recognition and contractual terms can be found below via the relevant speciality.

If your specialty is not listed, this means we are not currently accepting applications in your area of medicine.

Once you are ready to apply for recognition, please go to the Private Practice Register and confirm you accept our terms by ticking the appropriate box. By doing this, you are also agreeing to the following:

  1. I will inform AXA Health in a timely manner of: (i) any current or proposed disciplinary action by any statutory or other regulatory or governing body or by any employer; or (ii) any modification or withdrawal of admitting privileges at any independent hospital;
  2. I have read and agreed to abide by AXA Health’s terms of recognition, published fees and specialist agreement (including but not limited to the limit on fees). Please chose your specialty below to view your specific terms and conditions;
  3. I understand that failure to comply with paragraphs (1) and (2) above will result in a failure to be recognised by AXA Health or, in the event recognition has been awarded, temporary or permanent withdrawal of recognition by AXA Health for benefit purposes;
  4. I understand that, without prejudice to any other right of revocation and in any event, AXA Health reserves the right to revoke recognition at any time and in its sole discretion;

Medical acupuncturist

To become a medical acupuncturist recognised by AXA Health*, you must:

  • have full registration with one of the following bodies:

- have full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- be a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAC)

  • have a practice that is not subject to any special conditions, restrictions, warnings or a requirement for supervision or further training
  • retain current professional indemnity insurance for the treatments you provide
  • submit all invoices electronically through Healthcode or any other electronic billing system that AXA Health recognises.

Anaesthetist

To become an anaesthetist recognised by AXA Health*, you must:

  • have full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • be on the Specialist Register of the GMC in a specialty that we recognise for benefit under our plans
  • have a practice that is not subject to any special conditions, restrictions, warnings or a requirement for supervision or further training
  • hold a current position that is either:
    - substantive appointment as a consultant in your specialty within the NHS or Armed Forces, or
    - a substantive appointment as a Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professor in the medical faculty of a UK university awarding a primary registrable qualification under the Medical Acts, with a concurrent appointment as an Honorary Consultant in that specialty in the NHS, or
    - as an independent practitioner, working solely in private practice, who can provide evidence of a previously-held substantive appointment as a consultant in your specialty within the NHS
  • have practising privileges at a hospital in our directory of hospitals
  • retain current professional indemnity insurance for the treatments you provide
  • submit all invoices electronically through Healthcode or any other electronic billing system that AXA Health recognises.

Audiologist

To become an audiologist recognised by AXA Health*, you must:

  • have full registration with the one of the following bodies:

- full membership and a clean record with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- registered with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP)

  • have held a substantive appointment in your specialty with the NHS
  • retain current professional indemnity insurance for the treatments you provide
  • submit all invoices electronically through Healthcode or any other electronic billing system that AXA Health recognises.

  • be on the specialist register of the Faculty of Homeopathy (FFHom)
  • have a practice that is not subject to any special conditions, restrictions, warnings or a requirement for supervision or further training
  • retain current professional indemnity insurance for the treatments you provide

  • hold a current position which is either:

Podiatric surgeon

To become a podiatric surgeon recognised by AXA Health*, you must:

  • have full registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • have a clean record with the HCPC
  • have a Fellowship in Podiatric Surgery (FCPodS)
  • be on the approved list of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists
  • hold a substantive post as a consultant podiatrist or as a consultant in podiatric surgery in the NHS
  • have practising privileges at a hospital in our directory of hospitals
  • retain current professional indemnity insurance for the treatments you provide
  • submit all invoices electronically through Healthcode or any other electronic billing system that AXA Health recognises.

Psychotherapist (child or adult)

To become a psychotherapist recognised by AXA Health*, you must hold one of the following:

  • full accredited membership of the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)
  • full accredited membership of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
  • full accredited registered membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), with at least five years post-qualification experience and holding or having held a post at Grade 8A as a child psychotherapist in the NHS.

You must also: 

  • have a clean record with your associated regulatory body
  • retain current professional indemnity insurance for the treatments you provide
  • submit all invoices electronically through Healthcode or any other electronic billing system that AXA Health recognises.
