To make it easier to identify which treatments are proven to be safe and effective, we have adopted a ‘traffic light’ patient safety rating system.
In the traffic light system, we define the following:
Green: Conventional Treatments proven to be safe and effective. We authorise these treatments.
Amber: Unproven Treatments proven to be safe but with uncertain evidence of effectiveness. We don't fund these treatments, but may offer a financial contribution up to the cost of conventional proven treatment.
Red: Unproven treatments with uncertain evidence of safety, or proven to be harmful or ineffective. We don't fund these treatments.
